The developing web address of the Ridgeside Community Network.
We welcome many new residents to Ridgeside (both Shepherd Hills and Crescent Park)!
Everyone will get an invitation later but please mark your calendar for these dates:
- July 19 7:00 TOWN MEETING with the Commissioners of the City of Ridgeside. Held at the pool house. We meet quarterly to consider city business and community concerns.
- July 31 7:00 ICE CREAM PARTY to welcome newcomers and to celebrate the best of summer-homemade ice cream of all flavors! This is a great event and good time to meet people.
DOGS
Dogs cause the most complaints in Ridgeside! DO NOT let your dog run loose. You must have your dog under your control at all times-by voice command, leash or fence. People have been frightened and hurt. If you are reported to allow your dog to run loose, you will first receive a "green notice." Repeated offense will result in a citation to appear before County Sessions Court.
Recently cars parked on the street, especially at night or overnight, have been vandalized. One got a brick thrown through the windshield. We have asked for increased patrolling. But be aware that parking on the street is an invitation to vandals.
At all times, ask repairmen and guests to use your driveway. When parking on the street is necessary, please park on one side only to avoid narrowing the street to one lane.
THE UPPER END OF RIDGESIDE ROAD IS A PROBLEM AREA: The street is too narrow in that area for cars to be parked on both sides of the road. AT ALL TIMES PARK ONLY ON THE NORTH SIDE of the road. This applies especially to 100, 102 and 104 Ridgeside. Tell your guests to park in your drive on the other side of the street.
HERE IS HOW THE PICK-UP SERVICE WORKS FOR YARD DEBRIS-
PATTY DIAL 595-1568 manages Ridgeside Garbage and Debris pick-up service.
Yard Debris Pick-up Every Thursday
Yard Debris means grass clippings, leaves, prunnings, sticks, weeds, etc.-natural things that can be ground up. No soil, rocks, edging, stumps, or lumber
Bag it! Don't make bags too heavy to lift. Place bags on street curb (not in gutters).
All BAGS will be picked up on Thursday afternoons AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.
If it cannot be bagged-like branches-then pile them on the curb. Break down branches to fit on truck. A reasonably sized pile will be picked up AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. It is in our contract with Patty to pick-up normal quantities of yard material.
BUT-if you have a LARGE PILE of debris-CALL PATTY 595-1568 and make arrangements for its pick-up. She will charge depending on the quantity (weight -such as stumps-is considered as well as volume). It is not in our city's contract with Patty to haul large loads of debris. So if you have cut down a row of shrubs, or if a large branch falls in a storm, you must make special arrangements to have it removed. It you want Patty to remove it, she will do so at AN EXTRA CHARGE to the homeowner.
Removal of shrubs and trees is not included in city's contract -please call for trailer to load.
TRAILER-If you arrange for a trailer to be left in front of your house and YOU load it, the cost is less ($25-35 depending on the quantity). The trailer is available weekends only. Patty will drop it off on Friday and pick it up on Monday.
NO TRAILER-If Patty loads the debris, it costs more ($35-50). Patty has to take the debris to the burning station and pay a fee. If you wish to take the debris yourself, ask her for directions. It is the homeowner's responsibility to have large quantities of debris removed.
NOTE: Sometimes Patty has a light load and can pick-up more debris than usual. In that case she does not charge, but that is rare and should not be relied on. Please call Patty if you have a large quantity, 595-1568.
HOUSEHOLD JUNK-this means pots from potted plants, lumber, equipment, carpet, furniture-it does NOT mean old computers, appliances, etc. (More on that later). Patty will pick it up on the same basis as yard debris. If you have a reasonable amount, just bag it or leave it on the street curb. If you have a large amount (if you are cleaning out your attic or moving) then call Patty and make arrangements for pick-up. The trailer will be left at your house if you call.
If you wish to dispose of household debris yourself, go to the Birchwood Landfill, 9327 Birchwood Pike (Go to the Harrison Bay State Park off Highway 58, go three miles past the park to Birchwood Pike, one half mile on left is the landfill. Hours: M-F 7-5:00, Sat 7:30-12:00. There is a charge by weight for non-city residents.
RECYCLABLES-this means newspapers; mixed paper; clear, green and brown glass; steel/tin cans; #1 and #2 plastic. Clean out bottles and cans. Place in bags that can be seen through or that distinquish the recyclables from your trash. Patty will pick-up these recyclables at NO EXTRA CHARGE with trash-pick-up on THURSDAYS.
TO RECYCLE the following: Large number of cardboard boxes, auto batteries, rechargeable batteries, used motor oil, printer cartridges, cell phones-- go to Warner Park Recycling Center, on Third Street, M-F 7:30-5:00 and Sat 9-1:00
TO RECYCLE the following: computers, fax machines, cellular phones, small appliances, televisions, stereos, VCR/DVD players-- go to the Orange Grove Recycling Center, located at 460 Dodson Avenue, M-F 8:00- 4:00. It is free to dispose of all items except computer monitors and TVs. TVs under 25" are $10, over 25" are $20. If you have a large volume of materials, you need to call ahead 493-2942.
What not to recycle: Lids and caps, window glass, light bulbs, mirrors, ceramics, china, crystal, pie plates, aluminum foil, wire hangers, fabrics, Styrofoam, plastic toys, wet paper, or unrinsed containers.
Thank you for your patience when the Ridgeside swim team hosts a swim meet here. Most people from other teams are very confused about where our pool is and they park all over the place. We know this is an inconvenience to residents. The team is a great asset to the community and attracts good families to move here. We appreciate your support. But we have some good news---There are NO MORE AT-HOME MEETS this summer.
Ambulance and fire truck drivers have complained about finding the houses they are looking for.
Be sure your house number is clearly visible.
STREET LIGHTING. We are making a renewed effort to get lights on the street! We need your help. Every resident must have a light at the street-and keep it on. If yours is not working, please repair it NOW. You may use gas or electric. If it is electric, use a timer or photo-cell so that the light is not dependent on your switch.
The safety committee will be doing a survey to see which houses HAVE LIGHTS ON AT THE STREET LEVEL. If individual homeowners do not comply, we may have to raise taxes to pay for installing bright street lighting!-GET YOUR LIGHT FIXED at the street!
Call Linda Allen for HELP on lighting, 629-7186.
